Submission to the Law Admissions Consultative Committee -
Consultation on Practical Legal Training Reform

RAJA has lodged a submission to the Law Admissions Consultative Committee (LACC) as a coalition of Community Legal Centres operating across regional, rural and remote Western Australia.

Drawing on findings from RAJA’s Workforce Reform Research and Design Program (2024–2026), the submission highlights the structural barriers affecting regional legal workforce attraction and retention, including training access, supervision, housing, childcare, digital connectivity and workforce pathways.

The submission forms part of RAJA’s broader Workforce Sustainability agenda, which seeks to strengthen long-term access to justice by addressing the conditions shaping regional legal workforce capacity.

LEAP - Legal Education Access Pathway

The LEAP pilot program supports extended regional internships for law students, helping strengthen early-career pathways into regional justice work.

Delivered in partnership with the University of Western Australia, the program connects students with regional organisations while addressing barriers such as accommodation, travel and supervision support.

By providing meaningful placements and structured learning experiences, LEAP aims to strengthen the long-term regional justice workforce pipeline.

Workforce Reform Project

Sustainable regional justice systems depend on stable and supported workforces.

The RRR Workforce Reform Project, prepared for RAJA, examined the structural drivers shaping workforce sustainability across rural, regional and remote Western Australia.

The project provides a reform blueprint highlighting opportunities to strengthen workforce pathways, supervision infrastructure and system coordination across regional justice settings.
