About RAJA

The Regional Alliance of Justice Associations (RAJA) was established in response to growing recognition that regional justice challenges require coordinated, place-based solutions.

Across Western Australia, rural, regional and remote communities experience unique structural pressures. Workforce shortages, housing constraints, distance, digital connectivity and smaller service ecosystems all shape how justice systems operate in regional contexts.

At the same time, national and state reform agendas increasingly emphasise capability, collaboration and sustainable system design.

RAJA was formed as a collective response to these pressures.

Rather than merging organisations or centralising services, regional leaders explored whether a collaborative model could strengthen regional capacity while preserving local identity and community connection.

RAJA is driven by the following six Legal Assistance providers:

Through a structured exploration process conducted over 12 months, the concept of a federated shared services backbone model emerged.

This model allows independent regional organisations to maintain local governance while working together through RAJA to coordinate shared initiatives, strengthen workforce pathways, support policy engagement and improve system alignment.

Today, RAJA works with regional partners, government and sector stakeholders to strengthen justice outcomes across Western Australia’s rural, regional and remote communities.
